As a lot of you already know I’m a Gaeilgeoir and love the opportunity to speak or promote the Irish language where possible. I was fortunate enough to study media through Irish in college and worked with Raidió na Life while they were celebrating 20 years in existence which was a very exciting year. This year they are officially launching their new studios and so I’m really looking forward to a night with old colleagues to celebrate.
Many people I talk to about the Irish language wish that they could speak it, but it’s hard to do anything if you don’t give yourself the opportunity to practice, or make mistakes and learn from it. Did you know that in Dundalk there’s a great outlet called Conradh na Gaeilge Dún Dealgan? They have fantastic resources for school teachers to help promote Irish within their classrooms. They also have a long list of ways in which you can improve your own Irish.
Recently I interviewed Niall Sloan, Secretary of the Conradh na Gaeilge Dún Dealgan about what’s coming up in the near future for them. He spoke about the “Clann Mhic Ruairí” gig which is happening in the Lisdoo this Friday 23rd February.
Take a listen to the interview below to find out more. Hopefully it will inspire you to speak the ‘cúpla focal’ or simply enjoy the craic agus cheoil of the night. Enjoy the interview and thanks for reading.
P.s Tickets are available at Glen Gat Guesthouse, Hall’s Curio Shop Dundalk and at the Lisdoo.
