As part of my work with LMFM, I get to cover charity events. One that stood out for me was yesterday at Shanley Interiors where they organised a fundraiser for the My Mate Mick Campaign. Everyone came together to supply food & entertainment with fantastic spot prizes for the monster raffle that took place.
The My Mate Mick Campaign started around two weeks ago after a tragic incident happened to Mick Jardine. He is a Glasgow man who married a local woman from Navan, Caroline McCormack. They emigrated to Australia with their children, Louis & Florence a couple of years ago. Mike is a welder and suffered a serious work accident where he received 35% burns to his body. He was in a medically induced coma in hospital but now is coming round. Through the My Mate Mick site they’ve raised over €20,000 and with yesterday’s fundraiser organised by friends and family they’ve definitely doubled that figure. This is a community effort to raise funds to pay for medical bills and to give peace of mind from financial worries for the young family.
I spoke to Aileen, owner of Shanley Interiors, who helped organise this event and Caroline from Butterfly Ballet School who provided some entertainment for the day. Listen to the short interview below.
I also put together a video to capture some more of the entertainment from the day on the LMFM facebook page that you can look at below.
What a great family fun day in aid of My Mate Mick. Already over €30,000 raised. Here's a little flavour of today's antics with Aileen from Shanley Interiors and Caroline from Butterfly Ballet School along with many more. Tag anyone you know in the video and well done to all involved. We wish Mick a speedy recovery. You can make a donation at www.mymatemick.com or instore at Shanley Interiors.
