Team Ireland O’Donovan Brothers Schools Competition awarded Scoil Bhríde in Dunleer with €3,000 worth of school sports equipment last month thanks to FBD Insurance. The sun was shining & the children gave such a warm welcome to the world rowing champions, Gary & Paul O’Donovan, on the day. The posters & art work were incredible and there slogan printed across the windows of the school was, of course, “Pull like a Dog”! LMFM were there on the day along with Pelican promotions with bouncy castles, I only wish I had my tracksuit on to join in on the fun!

On the day, I had a lovely chat with the O’Donovan Brothers, Brian Healy of FBD Insurance, the school’s principal Joanne Moran & two of their pupils, Chloe & Lily-Mae.

Warm welcome at Scoil Bhríde, Dunleer.

Paul gave some great advice when I asked about how to encourage young girls in sport, he explained that it’s important “to enjoy whatever they’re doing…it doesn’t even have to be sport, if you’re passionate about anything in life, then go after it”. Gary added that “if you want to bring friends with you & enjoy it with them, that can really enhance your interests in it”. They also told us of some of the great experiences they’ve had traveling the world together & seeing some beautiful places while competing. When asked if they got on well on their travels, Paul said “we fight kind of regular enough, we get over it pretty quick. It’s just a bit of banter really”. The most important question of the day had to be from the girls, Chloe & Lily-Mae, with “Who has the stinkiest feet?”. If you missed it on the airwaves you can catch it below!

Have a listen & if you’ve an event or something happening in your area be sure to get in contact.
